PECKS NEW GROUNDCARE AND COUNTRY STORE IS NOW OPEN!
A family run firm since 1846 and celebrating our 170th year of business, Pecks has moved to purpose-built premises on Grovemere Business Park, Lancaster Way, Ely. Investment in the new groundcare, country store and flagship head office building follows a period of sustained growth and expansion.
The new premises on Lancaster Way includes agricultural machinery sales and service, with workshops accessible to the rear of the building. A separate lawn, ground care and country store stocking high quality, market leading brands is accessible to the front with plenty of free car parking, ease of access from the A142 and local bus route. Whilst farmers, agricultural and horticultural sector customers and tradespeople will continue to benefit from the machinery depot and store, the ground care showroom and country store is also open to the general public 7 days a week catering for domestic lawn and ground care, DIY, gardening, tooling, workwear, hardware requirements and more.
First established as ironmongers in the city centre by George and John Peck, G & J Peck has been headquartered in Ely since 1846. Located in Ely Market Place, where Cheffins Estate Agents is currently situated, father and son, George and John Peck founded their blacksmith and ironmongery business in 1846. The company soon developed and moved into the old forge in Market Street which is currently the premises of WH Smith. In so doing, the ironmongery and blacksmiths part of the business grew to include hardware and DIY products. The additional agricultural side of G & J Peck was moved and located in West Fen Road.
In 1979 Pecks agricultural dealership moved to purpose-built premises in Lisle Lane, Ely. Although the business was thriving, from 1998 it was decided that instead of having split sites in Ely, the company would benefit from being in one building which remained the company’s flagship head office in Lisle Lane until August 2016.
With a total of six depots located through Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk, G & J Peck has come a long way from the small ironmongery on Ely market place. After 170 years, we are excited to continue supporting the Ely community and continue to be forward-thinking, so we can be here for many future generations.
